Settled household dust samples were collected from twelve dwellings in urban areas during an annual winter heating period. Emission of compounds from settled household dust was analyzed under simulated hot surface conditions with a temperature range of 50–300°C. The compounds were analyzed and identified by thermal desorption—gas chromatographic-mass spectrometric technique. The organic emission from household dust was relatively low at temperatures below 70° C, increased appreciably above 100°C, and gained in strength at temperatures above 200°C. Desorption of adsorbed compounds is the main contribution to emissions, but at higher temperatures the thermal degradation seems to affect also the quantity and the quality of the emissions. The organic composition of household dust was found to be equal in quality at different sampling sites; the emissions consist of mainly aliphatic aldehydes (C6—C13), aliphatic carboxylic acids and their esters (C8 C18, C6–C30) and phthalates. Phosphate esters, branched alkanes, n-alkenes, n-alkanones, monoterpenes, aromatic hydrocarbons, and aromatic and aliphatic alcohols were also well represented groups in household dust samples. The potential sources of identified compounds are discussed.  相似文献

The rheological properties of the blend components are an important parameter in the formation of a blend morphology. The effect of viscosity ratio on the morphology of polyamide 66/polypropylene blends was studied, with primary attention to the phase-inversion behavior and the average particle size of the dispersed phase. The relationship between the mechanical properties and the phase-inversion composition was investigated as well. Noncompatibilized and compatibilized blends having five different viscosity ratios were prepared by twin-screw extrusion. Maleic anhydride-grafted polypropylene was used as the compatibilizer to increase the adhesion between the two polymers and to stabilize the blend morphology. Investigation of the morphology of the blends by microscopy (SEM and TEM) showed that the smaller the viscosity ration (ηPAPP) the smaller was the polyamide 66 concentration at which the phase inversion took place and that polyamide 66 became the continuous phase. The results are in accord with the model of Jordhamo. The compatibilizer induced a sharp reduction of particle size, but did not have a major effect on the phaseinversion point. The tensile and impact properties of the compatibilized blends were found to correlate with the phase inversion. An improvement in the mechanical properties was observed when polyamide 66 provided the matrix phase. © 1994 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.  相似文献

The aim of this study was to demonstrate mechanical recycling of low density polyethylene (LDPE) films coated with a thin layer of cellulose nanofibrils (CNFs). CNF acts as an effective barrier against oxygen and mineral oil residues. Two different CNF grades were tested, and both were applied onto plasma activated LDPE film using a pilot coating line. The coated films were shredded with the help of liquid nitrogen, compacted and compounded with virgin LDPE and compatibilizer, and processed into cast films and injection molded test specimens. The CNF coatings were completely blent as microscale agglomerates in the LDPE matrix. The effect of these agglomerates on the barrier and heat sealing properties was statistically insignificant compared to recycled uncoated LDPE. The mechanical properties were only moderately changed. CNF‐coated LDPE films can therefore be recycled back into films without sacrificing the characteristic properties of the base polymer. © 2018 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Appl. Polym. Effects of nitrogen availability on secondary compounds, mycorrhizal infection, and aphid growth of 1-year-old Scots pine (Pinus sylvestris L.) seedlings were studied during one growing season. Seedlings were fertilized with nutrient solutions containing low, optimum, and two elevated (2 × and 4 × optimum) levels of NH4NO3. At the end of growing season foliar nitrogen concentration, needle biomass, needle length, water contents of needles, root collar diameter, and number of buds increased with enhanced nitrogen availability. Addition of nitrogen did not have effect on concentrations of monoterpenes in growing needles, but in mature needles significantly decreased concentrations of some individual and total monoterpenes were detected. In growing needles the concentrations of some individual resin acids decreased, and in mature needles concentrations of some individual and total resin acids increased with increased nitrogen fertilization. Higher numbers of resin ducts were found in mature needles with nitrogen fertilization. Nitrogen fertilization decreased total phenolic concentrations in growing and mature needles of the current year, but in needles of the previous year no significant differences occurred. Mycorrhizal infection was highest at medium (optimum and 2 × optimum) nitrogen fertilization levels. The relative growth rate (RGR) of grey pine aphid [Schizolachnus pineti (F.)] responded positively to the increase in foliar nitrogen content. However, the increase in aphid performance between optimum and the highest fertilization level was slight. This may indicate a deterring effect of resin acids on aphids. The results indicate that carbon/nutrient balance hypothesis fails to predict directly the effects of nitrogen availability on concentrations of carbon-based defensive compounds in mature foliage. Altered nitrogen supply affects allocation to secondary metabolites differently, depending on the developmental state of the plant and the biosynthesis pathway, cost of synthesis, and storage of compounds.  相似文献

High density polyethylene (rHDPE) is extruded 1 to 8 times, with and without detergent, to simulate the effects of impurities on the material and on the artificial ageing process. The mechanical properties, thermal stability, rheology, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), and volatile organic compound (VOC) emissions are measured. According to the results, ageing of rHDPE increases tensile strength, reduces elongation, and enhances side chain branching of the material and thus causes rheological changes. The addition of detergent reduces changes in mechanical properties and rheological behavior but accelerates thermal degradation. VOC and FTIR measurements of the samples with detergent addition show generation of harmful 1,4‐dioxane. The amount of total emission, as well as emissions of important perfumes limonene and 1R‐α‐pinene, decreases during multiple extrusion cycles. Heating of the plastics is found to be a major factor in the VOC emission reduction. Impurities have a notable effect on the artificial ageing results. © 2016 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Appl. Polym. Discrete-time computational models of squirrel-cage AC motors are derived and analyzed for the purpose of advanced motor control. The starting point is a continuous-time model defined by a pair of simultaneous complex-coefficient differential equations. Discrete-time models are derived using both the bilinear transformation and the forward-difference approximation. The exact dependence between stability and the minimum sampling rate in the forward-difference approach is shown. The responses of the two discretized models are compared using real-world motor parameters. Using the forward difference method, a more compact implementation is obtained (although a higher sampling rate is required) as compared to the bilinear transformed model of equivalent performance and 2.7 times higher computational complexity. The hygienic properties of two types of processing oils used in the manufacture of galvanised metal air ducts mere investigated. One of the oils was based on mineral oil and the other on vegetable oil. Evaporation of the oil emulsions from the galvanized metal surface was followed for ten months, after which the water-binding capacity of the residues was measured in increasing and decreasing RH at the range of 75-100%. The potential of processing oil residues to act as nutrients for fungi was tested with Penicillium brevi-compactum in the laboratory. The odour emission of oil residues was evaluated with the aid of a trained panel for eight months. After the ten months, the residue of mineral-oil- and vegetable-oil-based products was 60% and 79% of the original amount, respectively. Both oils were able to absorb water but desorption of the water from vegetable-oil-based products was delayed, thus increasing the risk of fungal growth. The residues of both oils provided sufficient nutrients for fungal growth. The odour emissions from the oil residues were high and that of vegetable oil tended also to increase. To attain high indoor air quality, duct manufacturing methods which do not leave residues should be developed.  相似文献

Weekly personal NO2 exposures of 246 children aged 3-6 years were measured with Palmes tubes during 13 weeks in winter and spring in 1991. Measurements were made in eight day-care centers in the downtown and suburban areas of Helsinki, Finland. At the same time, inside and outside NO2 concentration of the day-care centers and the ambient air fixed site measurements were conducted. Palmes tubes were found to be applicable for NO2 exposure measurements of preschool children, but rather high sample losses could be expected. The geometric mean of personal NO2 exposure levels of 13-week period was 26.5 micrograms/m3 in the downtown and 17.5 micrograms/m3 in the suburban area. Gas stove and smoking at home increased significantly personal exposure to NO2. The weekly population NO2 exposure correlated rather poorly with the fixed site ambient air NO2 levels (R2 = 0.37), but much better with the NO2 levels inside and outside the day-care centers (R2 = 0.88 and 0.86). In the suburban and downtown groups the between children variations in the NO2 exposures were only 14% and 28% of the total variations, which were dominated by the within child variation. Stationary measurements at the ambient air fixed sites and inside and outside the day-care centers explained the variation in personal exposures of the children well during the spring, but not during the winter. A regression model, where data from outside day-care center measurements, fixed ambient air monitors, residential area and home characteristics (i.e., gas stove, smoking inside at home, type of dwelling) were included, explained 32% of the personal NO2 exposure variation in winter and 67% in spring. In the absence of personal exposure measurements, both stationary measurements and questionnaire information are useful in estimating variations in personal exposures.  相似文献
